Some developments may need town planning or development approval.
Development applications are required so that assessment of plans and information can be undertaken so that development is considered in terms of compliance with relevant provisions of the Planning Legislation and the Gatton Shire Council’s Planning Scheme, the appropriateness of use of the property according to zoning, any impacts upon occupants of adjacent properties or any visual impact upon a locality and whether any deleterious effect on the environment would be occasioned by the implementation of the proposal.
It is recommended that the advice and assistance from staff in Council’s Planning and Environment Department be sought in conjunction with proposals to use land within the Shire. Before undertaking any development, please discuss your intentions with Council by contacting Council’s Planning and Environment Department on: (07) 5462 0340
The fee payable in respect of land use proposals is detailed in Council's Fees and Charges available on this website.

Planning Scheme Review
Council recently has commenced the administrative/procedural processes relating to the preparation of the Lockyer Valley Regional Council Planning Scheme.
The first of the procedural processes was to prepare a Statement of Proposals (SOP). The SOP whist not a regulatory requirement under the Sustainable Planning Act provides an opportunity for the community to gain an insight into the major challenges and opportunities facing the Lockyer Valley.
The SOP also provides the opportunity for the community to make an important contribution to the process of deciding how the identified challenges and issues for the Lockyer Valley can be addressed through the new Lockyer Valley Planning Scheme.
The draft SOP has now been prepared. The SOP is available for the community to peruse and provide feedback to Council. The final version of the SOP will be prepared, following the series of community meetings and the Whole of Government meeting. An issues paper identifying all of the issues/concerns raised during the initial community consultation period will also be prepared.
Community feedback on the draft SOP is encouraged and feedback/submissions will be accepted and considered by Council at all stages of the Planning Scheme preparation.
The SOP is available to be downloaded on Council’s Website and hard copies are available at the Gatton Service Centre situated at 26 Railway Street, Gatton and the Laidley Service Centre at 9 Spicer Street, Laidley.
